Local Area portal (LAP) project in collaboration with Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) to develop a portal with community based information generated through local content by as many villages from all over the world. Under LAP project, MAC & DEF work for collecting village resource information through local people, generate LAP website, give GIS interface to LAP site and connect villages to the world through internet. The mapping tools used have multilingual interface. 50 Gram Panchyats from Maharashtra are pioneering this project.

MAC and DEF aims to utilize ICT and GIS tools through innovative applications for the development sector in a sustainable way.

LAP project workshops for Gram Panchayat of villages was arranged on 16th Feb., 2008 in Pune and 10th & 11th April 2008, in Loni, Ahemadnagar by MAC and DEF. These workshops got tremendous response from GP's of villages. Also maximum no. of villages participated in these workshops showed interest in the LAP project. Approximately 25 villages Gram Panchayat made their own village web site under LAP project till date.
